“My overall experience of the acupuncture sessions was overwhelmingly positive. I was diagnosed with Stage IV endometriosis a few years ago and suffer from severe ongoing pain as a result…My pain has reduced considerably since sessions began. I’m also sleeping very well and am more relaxed. All of these improvements have brought me to a more positive place.” C.G (34) from Dublin.

Endometriosis is estimated to affect between 2% and 10% of women in Ireland and up to 50% of women suffering from infertility are also suffering from endometriosis.

In general, endometriosis manifests by severe pain before and during menstruations. Other symptoms can manifest as pain during intercourse, painful bowel movements, painful urination. Symptoms can be cyclical and worsen before and during menstruations.

Endometriosis is caused by the endometrium which is a tissue found within the uterus. It happens when the endometrium is growing outside the uterus causing inflammation, particularly during menstruation as this tissue responds to hormonal changes.

Can acupuncture help?

Cyrille Bonnard says: “For the past 6 years, I have been treating women suffering from endometriosis with very good results. I noticed that acupuncture can help in particular to relieve pain, to regulate menstruations and to improve fertility”.

This is supported by research as preliminary studies support acupuncture for endometriosis as a beneficial treatment.

Among the positive effects of acupuncture for endometriosis are:

  • It relieves pain
  • It reduces uterus contractions and regulates hormone levels
  • It reduces inflammation
  • It has positive effects on the abnormal tissues.
